Advent 2023: Joy

“The joy of the Lord is your strength” (Neh. 8:10, NKJV).

“If you keep My commandments, you will abide in My love, just as I have kept My Father’s commandments and abide in His love. These things I have spoken to you, that My joy may remain in you, and that your joy may be full” (John 15:10-11, NKJV).

There are times I have found myself being self-absorbed in all the things that I need to get done. The holiday season itself can add a lot of extra stress as our to-do list grows. But when I’m overwhelmed, the Lord will have me look up and around and see the many who have lost their joy since the pandemic.

We are more than overcomers in Christ! As sons and daughters of God, we have His very own life and presence in us, and that includes joy.

The world may seem to be spinning out of control all around us, but the stage is being set for the greatest outpouring of the Holy Spirit and the most significant time in church history. I believe we are about to enter into a season of great miracles, salvations, breakthroughs and transformation like never before.

This will not come without a challenge from the enemy, and circumstances in our lives may tempt us to be distracted, rejected, offended or depressed. But that is our old identity—we are more than overcomers in Christ! As sons and daughters of God, we have His very own life and presence in us, and that includes joy. His fullness of joy gives us all the strength that we need to defy the threats of the enemy, and we rejoice knowing that nothing can ever snatch us from the Father’s hand. That promise alone compels me to share the Good News of Jesus with my family and friends in this hour.

In these days, while I still have breath, I desire my cup to be overflowing. And that comes from spending time in His presence and His Word, and celebrating His great works and power within me, no matter the circumstances I am in. May we step into the supernatural joy of Jesus. He is so worthy!

Prayer + reflection

  • On a scale of 1 to 10 (10 being the highest), what level is your joy tank at? Is it full, half-full or empty?
  • Thank the Lord for the gift of the fruit of the Spirit, joy, in you.
  • If you lack joy, ask the Lord to fill you with the oil of His joy and lead you to divine appointments to share this supernatural joy with someone else.
