Imagine if Jesus noticed something so unique about your life or actions that He would think it important enough to point out to others. A few times, Jesus’ disciples wished He hadn’t pointed out some of their actions. Those were not necessarily the high points of their time of following Jesus! During His earthly ministry, Jesus noticed some significant acts from seemingly very ordinary people.

Three of the people Jesus publicly acknowledged as having done something extraordinary would not have necessarily won any public recognition from their peers, but what they did was obviously very important to Christ. First, there was the widow who was observed dropping a few mites (very little) into the offering plate at the synagogue. Next, a centurion was identified as having unparalleled faith when he requested healing for his servant, and finally, Mary (of Mary, Martha and Lazarus) was strongly affirmed for her devotion when she sat at Jesus’ feet to glean more of His wisdom.

In a world that gives badges, trophies, championships and other worthy accolades to many, it is a bit unusual for God to step into the fray and acknowledge the individual attributes that set some people apart from others. Because this was a rare moment in Jesus’ public ministry, it leads me to conclude that these were very valuable life principles that He was celebrating:

  • The widow – Give without reservation
  • The centurion – Believe without proof
  • Mary – Worship without intimidation

People who are committed to kingdom principles may not receive a lot of earthly awards, but you can rest assured that heaven has noticed!

“And behold, I am coming quickly, and My reward is with Me, to give to every one according to his work.” -Revelation 22:12 (NKJV)
