After a process that spanned more than two years and included a multi-member legal transition task force, the board of directors has announced the selection of Foursquare’s new general counsel: Joshua Best, Esq. Josh will begin in November, and will work for several months with Elford (El) Clark, Foursquare’s current general counsel.

“I am thrilled that Josh has agreed to serve in the role of general counsel,” says President Glenn Burris Jr. “It is clear that his heart is to serve the kingdom, and all of us involved in the selection process strongly sensed God’s direction and anointing on his life. We look forward to a long and happy partnership with Josh.”

Josh received his Juris Doctor from Pepperdine University School of Law. He began his legal career at Nordman Cormany Hair & Compton LLP in Oxnard, Calif., where he became a partner at age 30. His primary practice areas included corporate/business law and real estate law, but also included providing litigation management strategy to his business clients and working with his partners in the areas of intellectual property, estate planning and employment law.

In July 2012, Josh left his full-time career as an attorney to serve as the director of operations for LightHouse Church (Newbury Park Foursquare Church) in Newbury Park, Calif., where he and his family have attended since 2005. He has a passion for using administration and organizational clarity to coordinate church staff and members to carry out the vision given to the LightHouse pastoral staff. While working at LightHouse, Josh has maintained his legal practice.

Josh and his wife, Jana, have been married for 12 years. They have two daughters, the pride and joy of their lives: Kaylee (6) and Makenna (4).

For the past 18 years, the general counsel for The Foursquare Church has been El Clark, a seasoned pastor for 15 years before beginning a legal career with the church. An ordained Foursquare minister, El has served the general counsel role faithfully and with distinction, and he is well deserving of the retirement to which he looks forward next year. The Foursquare family is thankful for El’s untiring efforts on behalf of the denomination and has been touched by his godly servant-leadership. El will be honored for his faithful service at Foursquare Connection 2014 in Dallas.

Prayer for God’s hand of blessing and grace is appreciated for both the Best family and the Clark family as this transition occurs.
