“You are an influence. The question is, what kind of an influence are you going to be?”

This question, posed by Stan Simmons, pastor emeritus of Faith Chapel (Billings Foursquare Church) in Billings, Mont., is the kind of question that helps re-frame discipleship away from merely event-based structures and back to relationship-based frameworks.

Discipleship is the principle function of the church, and is something we must keep evaluating and returning to if we want to avoid mission drift. Sometimes our efforts to re-calibrate can over complicate things.

Stan has been making disciples of Jesus for decades. At Foursquare Connection 2016, he recalled the moment he made his own decision to follow Christ and offered a simple view of discipleship that could refresh each of our ministries in this vital area.
