With a reputation for mentoring and discipleship, it is no surprise to see Daniel A. Brown, Ph.D., called on to speak to the Foursquare family about multiplying younger leaders. When he was invited to speak, it is unlikely that anybody expected him to tell us he doesn’t believe in either the “younger” or the “leader” part of his assigned topic.
Rather than providing models of ministry for us to try and imitate in the multiplication of disciples, Daniel confined himself to the title and suggested a shift in our categorical thinking of age and leadership.
This may seem to press against the current tide of rapidly releasing leaders in their 20s and 30s, and sometimes overlooking those more seasoned veterans, but Daniel makes very valid points in this main session recorded live during Foursquare Connection 2014 in Dallas. Rather than being an advocate for “young” people, Daniel stands as an advocate for all people to mature in the faith.

It isn’t just a shift in our thoughts on age that is needed. Daniel also takes a run at the idea of early pre-selection of “leaders.” That narrow focus may train the best and the brightest, but it does not necessarily equip the church in all its facets and functions.
“My job, your job, is to train anyone and everyone to reach the furthest ministry potential that they can,” he asserts.
