I want to take a moment to encourage you with a simple reflection from my own journey through the Christmas season.
I remember a Christmas years ago when everything around me looked joyful, but inside, I felt empty. The busyness of the season had taken over, such as the services, the planning, the pressure, and I was just going through the motions. One quiet night, I sat alone in my family room with the Christmas lights blinking on the tree and staring at the Christmas stockings hanging on the chimney. In the stillness, I opened my Bible and read John 3:16a: ‘For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son…’
That verse hit me differently that night. It felt personal. Jesus didn’t just come for the world alone. He came for me. He came so I could truly live, not just survive. In that moment, I realized how deeply I was loved, and it changed my perspective.
Now, each year, I pause to remember that moment. When I’m with family and friends, I don’t just see faces. I see blessings. I hear laughter and think of the joy Jesus brings. Christmas is not just a tradition. It’s a celebration of the life He gave you and me and the love we get to share with others.
As pastors and leaders, it’s easy to pour out and forget to be filled. But I want to remind you: the same Jesus you preach about, the same love you share with others, is for you too. His gift is personal. Let this season be more than a busy stretch of ministry. I challenge you to let it be a time to pause, breathe, and receive, again, the wonder of His love.
I encourage you to ponder these questions this Christmas season:
1. In the midst of the busyness of this season, how can you intentionally pause and reflect on the personal gift of Jesus in your life?
2. Who in your life can you share the presence and love of Christ with this Christmas, not just through gifts, but through meaningful connection?
Lord, thank you for the gift of Jesus. Help us pause, remember your love, and share it with others this Christmas. Amen.
