Teaching children to conclude their day with prayer is appropriate.

We’ve all seen the image of a child kneeling beside their bed to pray. As an adult, I’ve learned the value of beginning my day with prayer, as well. I need His guidance. I need the right focus from the start. I need to start the day with a declared dependence on Him. I’ve noticed my days go better when I’m conscious of a divine assignment.

With so many distractions, it’s helpful to settle my priorities early.

Let’s train our children to think about God first, not just last, and let’s begin habits that will have a powerful and lasting impact on their day—and the rest of their lives.

“But you, when you pray, go into your room, and when you have shut your door, pray to your Father who is in the secret place; and your Father who sees in secret will reward you openly” (Matt. 6:6, NKJV).

Reflect + Pray

1. Do your days begin with prayer, first thing after you wake? Commit to praying before doing anything else each morning for the next week.

2. Ask the Lord how you can disciple and set an example in prayer for the children around you.

3. Pray for vision and wisdom for all NextGen leaders and anyone in The Foursquare Church who ministers to children.

4. As children prepare to head back to school, pray for the teachers, administrators and staff in your local schools. Ask God to protect them and to give them wisdom and love as they teach the children entrusted to their care.
