For the last eight years, Dr. Glenn C. Burris Jr. has effectively led our movement, and we are grateful for his keen and timely contributions to the denomination. As you are likely aware, in June 2017 the convention body voted to amend our bylaws to accommodate an in-service training for a president-elect, consequently adjusting the presidential election timeline.
This September, Glenn began the ninth year of his term, and in the spring of 2019, we will select a president-elect that will train with our president for up to one year before taking office in September 2020.
In order to appropriately prepare for the presidential selection, various items have been processed and put in place to streamline our efforts and conduct this election cohesively.
These items include absentee voting (approved and added to our bylaws in 2013), which will enable ministers who are not able to attend convention to place their votes for president; and the inclusion of the president-elect’s in-service training (approved and added to our bylaws in 2017), which will provide the president-elect a unique opportunity to learn the intricacies of the presidential role with the outgoing president.
In addition to these processes, the Foursquare cabinet also began its preparation during the March 2018 cabinet meeting, from which the presidential profile was created and the presidential selection process and timeline were reviewed and approved.
It is our desire that all Foursquare ministers are informed of the election process and have an opportunity to participate. A new election website, available at 4sq.ca/election2019, includes the presidential profile, presidential job description and FAQs. It will be updated throughout as new information becomes available. In addition, a letter and nomination form will be mailed to you this November providing you the opportunity to participate by submitting the names of two ordained ministers you would like to recommend for the office of president.
