Central District Discovery Toolkit

A list of resources, brought to you by the Central District, to help people discover their God-given identity, calling and purpose.

The Discovery Toolkit is a comprehensive collection of resources designed to help local churches guide people toward understanding their God-given identity, calling and purpose. It includes multiple formats — including guided experiences like Foursquare Discovery, online courses like Focused Living and Younique (available for ages 13 and up, in English and Spanish), curated books, articles and podcast episodes — giving churches flexible options to meet people at any stage of their journey. Rounding it all out is a suite of recommended assessments, such as APEST, StrengthsFinder, Myers-Briggs and Working Genius, that help individuals and teams uncover their unique strengths and contributions to the body of Christ.

Discovery // Guided Experiences

Foursquare Discovery – This experience is set up in a two-day format crafted to accelerate your discovery process for maximum breakthrough. You’ll come away with a powerful calling statement, core values and an understanding of how your calling applies to your various roles and assignments. This year, the Central District is offering Foursquare Discovery attached to the 2026 FLCs. After completing Foursquare Discovery in person (Journey 1), you’ll have the opportunity to join an 8 week cohort for Foursquare Discovery Journey 2 where you’ll learn how to to create tangible goals and next steps to walk out what you’ve learned in the months and years ahead. Discovery // Courses

Focused Living Online – This course from Leader Breakthru University is designed to help you clarify God’s call on your life through determining values, a being statement, and a doing statement that together form your personal calling statement. A “calling-lite” option. The cost is $29.99 and can be taken by individuals or done as a group experience. Course Info

Younique Primer – This is 6-8 week calling discovery journey ideal for ages 18 and older. The tool can be used in your local context to lead others through an identity and calling discovery process. A “calling-lite” option. All resources are free and include videos and workbook materials for participants and trainers in English and Spanish.  Learn more. 

Younique Students (13-18 year olds) – This is a discovery journey for 13–18-year-olds. Like the Younique Primer, this tool can be used in your local context to lead your NextGen students through an identity and calling discovery process. Calling Courses by Steve Schell, D.Min. – These three courses, designed for a 12-week semester, arewritten by Steve Schell. The topics include: hearing God’s call, discovering God’s gifts and developing Godly character. Email Steve to request PDF resources.

Your Vocational Credo: Practical Steps to Discover Your Unique Purpose by Deborah Loyd – Although this is a book, it has great discovery tools and assessments built in that can be used for a calling discernment journey. Purchase on Amazon.

APEST assessment

Myers-Briggs personality test (free tests can be found online)
The Myers-Briggs Type Indicator assessment builds an understanding of strengths and blind spots. It also helps people understand how they might differ from one another.
