The Foursquare board of directors has appointed credentialed minister and longtime pastor, teacher and consultant Jessica Schulze as the first female chair of the board. She takes office on Sept. 1, following the completion of chair Nate Poetzl’s term.
“Jessica is uniquely qualified for this strategic leadership position,” says Foursquare President Randy Remington. “She has more than two decades of ministry leadership, and is passionate about raising up and equipping the next generation of leaders.”
Her predecessor affirms that Jessica will bring energy, experience and deep spirituality to the office.
“She has a ‘can do’ attitude, and tremendous gifts of discernment and encouragement,” states Nate, who wraps up nine years on the board on Aug. 31, serving the last six as chair. “Jessica has been a dedicated pastor and leader, and undoubtedly will lead the board well.”
Jessica has extensive missions involvement and experience in cross-cultural ministry initiatives. She has served on many administrative, organizational and corporate boards, including the 2024 cabinet and as convention business moderator.
A Boston native, Jessica grew up as the oldest of four children in the home of a Foursquare pastor. From an early age, she witnessed healings and miracles through the power of the Holy Spirit.
Jessica received her bachelor’s degree in theology from Life Pacific University in 2009. Before moving to Arizona, she and her husband of 27 years, Jeffrey, pastored in the Columbus, Ohio, area. In Columbus, she rallied local leaders and the area ministerial association to create The Hope Center, a community services organization in suburban Marysville.

After serving as Hope’s executive director, she pastored Grace North Church (Anthem Foursquare Church) in the Phoenix area and was an area pastor for Central Arizona churches in the Western District. She is also director of organizational health with Fielding Management Group of Tempe, Ariz., a consulting firm that works with businesses and nonprofits to help them streamline their organizations.
“Jessica is a tremendous asset to our board and has earned the trust and confidence of her fellow directors through her spiritual discernment, practical wisdom and organizational experience,” says President Randy Remington. “She always speaks with intention and adds greatly to our discussions. Most importantly, Jessica is a woman of deep spirituality; she listens to the Spirit and lives a life of prayer and godly obedience. I have grown to really respect her leadership, and I believe that God has prepared her for this role at such an important season in the life of our church.”
Jessica says she is passionate about helping leaders recognize that mission and organizational health are partners, not competing priorities.
“I believe that healthy governance, wise stewardship and Spirit-led leadership create greater capacity for the church to fulfill the Great Commission,” she says.
Jessica notes that the Lord has always been Foursquare’s chief architect and builder, while pastors and members are stewards of His call to build the church and contend for the harvest.
“I am honored to partner with President Randy Remington, the board and the Foursquare ministerium in this next season of all that Jesus has for us,” she affirms. “As stewards, my prayer is that we would be sensitive to the Spirit’s promptings, the integrity of the Word and the heart of Jesus.”
New vice chair
Board member Kevin Twombly has been appointed vice chair of the board. Lead pastor of Restoration Foursquare Church in Concord, N.H, he replaces Pastor Heather Moore in that position, although Heather will remain on the board through her term.
Randy states that Heather has given Foursquare “a pastor’s heart” while serving on task forces and committees. Heather also leads Hope Chapel Kailua Kona (Kailua Kona Foursquare Church) in Kailua, Hawaii, as senior pastor.
“Heather serves The Foursquare Church on the board as a steady and prophetically wise voice of exhortation and insight,” says Randy, “and is always a unifier in her approach to problem-solving and decision-making. She has a humble posture that undergirds a strong advocacy for righteousness and integrity in leadership. Her steady and seasoned leadership has been significant, and we will continue to benefit from her leadership as she serves her term on the board.”
Nate also praises Heather for her work, saying she has brought wisdom and a deep well of spiritual depth to the board over the past several years.
“I have the utmost respect for Heather’s ability to discern wisely, pray passionately and love deeply,” Nate says. “It has been an honor to serve alongside such a capable and integrous pastor and leader.”
New vice chair Kevin Twombly planted Restoration Foursquare in 2016. He has served on numerous committees and task forces, as a district NextGen director, and was an area pastor for the Atlantic District.
With a heart for fostering unity and spiritual growth, Kevin emphasizes biblical teaching that connects Scripture with practical application. Passionate about discipleship and community engagement, he enjoys helping others deepen their faith and walk with Jesus. He has been married to Kim for 30 years. They have three children: two young adults and one teenager.
“Kevin will bring a steady and thoughtful presence to the board,” Nate states. “His ability to think critically and work toward solutions is unprecedented. Kevin has done an incredible amount of work to develop and implement our healthy culture initiatives.”
Ric Guerra, chief operating officer of The Foursquare Church, also offers an endorsement of Kevin’s appointment. He had an opportunity to work closely with Kevin on the healthy culture initiative for 18 months.
“What impressed me most was Kevin’s ability to balance pastoral sensitivity with organizational excellence,” Ric says of Kevin’s service as chair of the task force. “He consistently approached difficult issues with humility and a genuine desire to listen, learn and discern the best path forward for our movement.”
Additional board appointments
Two other pastors are part of the new board: Ben Dixon, lead pastor of Northwest Church (Federal Way Foursquare Church) in Federal Way, Wash.; and Sarah Turbedsky, co-pastor of Harvest Community Church (Concord Northwest Foursquare Church) in Concord, N.C.
Ben has been serving since April, when he replaced Keith Jenkins, who left the board to become associate supervisor of the Western District. Ben will fulfill the three years remaining on Keith’s term, while Sarah will start a five-year term on Sept. 1. Sarah asks fellow leaders to pray for clarity and discernment for the board: “May we hear God’s voice above all of the competing voices.”
