Throughout Scripture and history, we have experienced the stories of men and women whose lives made a profound impact—but their names remain unknown to us, even today.

Think of the little boy who shared his five loaves and fishes that Jesus multiplied to feed thousands (John 6:1-14). Or what about the widow who gave an offering that impressed Jesus (Mark 12:41-44), or the centurion whose faith inspired Jesus to act (Matt. 8:5-13)? We retell their stories today, as well as numerous others, as part of our history and tradition. Yet, we do not know their names.

In Arlington, Va., the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier has been guarded constantly since 1948. This monument memorializes unidentified service members who gave the ultimate sacrifice for our country and protection. It is visited by thousands each year who want to pay tribute to these unknown fallen heroes.

You may never have your name on a poster, plaque or office door, but know this: He knows your name and your actions, and He sees your faith. Live and lead in a way that is pleasing to the Lord, and your influence will multiply.

When Jesus tells your story, your impact is limitless.

Prayer + Reflection

1. Have you been wrapped up in recognition from people, rather than the Lord? Repent and ask Him to help you live seeking only His validation.

2. Ask the Lord to help you share stories of bravery and service, even when details like names aren’t known, to your congregation and community.

3. Today is Veterans Day. Give thanks for those who fought or are fighting today for our freedom and protection. Think about ways to honor them in your congregation and community.

4. Pray for the chaplains who serve and preach the gospel alongside our military and in other institutional settings. Download the monthly Foursquare chaplains prayer guide.
