Previously we reported that no Foursquare churches were destroyed in the wake of Superstorm Sandy along the U.S. Eastern Seaboard. However, The Foursquare Church is reaching out to those who were affected. This is an update to our October 31 article, Foursquare Responds to Sandy.
Chestnut Street Community (Roselle Foursquare Church), co-pastored by Art and Sharon Snow, is the only church in Roselle with a commercial kitchen that is up to the task of feeding as many as 1,000 people a day. “Roselle Mayor Jamel Holley has asked that they be the central station to feed those in the community for the next eight to 10 days until the power is restored,” reports the Northeast District Office of Foursquare Churches.
The church in Roselle has also set up a lounge where police officers, firefighters, and other emergency workers can take a break and have a hot meal.
In Elizabeth, N.J., Paul and Karen Yuschak, co-pastors of StreetLight (Elizabeth Foursquare Church) are elated that partnerships between their mission and other outreach groups in the area are making a difference. Relief supplies have been donated to a community center and emergency shelter in nearby Cranford, and a supporting foundation of StreetLight has agreed to provide clothing and diapers for families in other temporary shelters.
