Ministry service doesn’t only take place inside the walls of a church building.

With a desire to train people for ministry in today’s world, these two longtime Foursquare pastors—Pablo Peña and Enrique Zone—are serving the Lord and building His kingdom by working in different educational fields where they can prepare a new generation of Christian leaders.

Taking ABI to the World: Pablo Peña

Returning to his native El Salvador, National Leader Pablo Peña saw the need to “train young leaders for the harvest.” Having come to Christ and gone to Bible school at Angelus Bible Institute in Los Angeles during his years in the U.S., he says, “We always need to be learning if the Lord is going to use us, and he can use us better if we are better prepared.”

Pablo and his wife, Alma, have been leading an Angelus Bible Institute extension for Foursquare and other churches in their homeland for 14 years. In recent years, they have also begun offering university scholarships for young students. “If you want to change lives in El Salvador, you have to focus on the young people,” he says.

Preparing Spanish-Speakers for Ministry: Enrique Zone

Enrique Zone

The growth of Foursquare’s Hispanic ministry in recent years can be traced, in part, to the forward thinking of Argentina-born Enrique Zone. After attending LIFE Bible College (now called Life Pacific College), he became convinced of the need to provide more appropriate opportunities for other Spanish speakers to prepare for ministry.

“The Hispanic church in the U.S. has a responsibility to provide an education without violating their culture and their language, so they can do the job God wants them to do,” he says.

Since founding the Faculty of Theology International in 1976, Enrique has seen some 4,000 Hispanic students from Foursquare and beyond equipped there and through other programs at Azusa Pacific University, where he is professor of ministry and Hispanic church leadership, and associate dean for urban and intercultural programs.
