Foursquare Missions International (FMI) is pleased to announce the appointment of Gareth Phillips as regional coordinator for the Caribbean. A lifelong Foursquare leader with deep roots in the region, Gareth brings a wealth of pastoral, academic and organizational experience to the role.
“Gareth is a passionate, joy-filled ministry leader whose breadth of experience has been shaped by a deep love for Jesus and His church,” says FMI Director Paul Greer. “We are expectant to see how the Lord will use Gareth’s leadership in this next season to strengthen the work across the Caribbean region and open new doors for the gospel. Please join us in praying for Gareth, and for our leaders and workers throughout the region—that souls would be won, disciples would be made, and that the Lord of the harvest would send out more workers.”
Aaron Hunter, global associate director for the Americas, echoes that confidence. “Over the past four years, I have had the privilege of working closely with Gareth through his role as regional chair,” Aaron shares. “From the beginning, there was a natural alignment in both heart and vision. I am confident that his experience, insight and passion will inspire a growth-oriented mindset, strengthening leadership development and advancing church multiplication.”
Born and raised in Foursquare Jamaica, Gareth accepted Jesus as Savior and was baptized with the Holy Spirit at age 10; he was baptized in water at age 11. By 13, he was serving in youth leadership and music ministry, and throughout high school and college he held leadership roles in student Christian fellowships, including president of Inter-School Christian Fellowship (ISCF) and vice president of Universities and Colleges Christian Fellowship (UCCF).
Gareth served as national leader of Foursquare Jamaica for two terms (2016-2024)—the youngest person to hold that position in the denomination’s history, elected at just 38 years old. Under his leadership, Jamaica relaunched L.I.F.E. Bible College as a vibrant online learning experience, established academic partnerships with other institutions, including Life Pacific University, and mobilized the NextGen Movement, an annual training initiative equipping young people to discover their gifting and purpose.
As Caribbean regional chair from 2022 to 2026, Gareth championed the region’s first multi-level leadership gathering—”Mega Gathering 2025”—which brought together approximately 70 national leaders, senior pastors and emerging leaders in the Dominican Republic. He was also integral in forging strategic partnerships with Foursquare leaders in Africa and Latin America, advancing a bold vision for cross-regional collaboration and church multiplication.
“I am driven by a vision I believe God has given me of the Caribbean region becoming an important influence in the Foursquare movement globally,” states Gareth. “I believe there is a generation of leaders emerging from the Caribbean who will rise above their economic, social and language limitations to have influence in the Foursquare work across the world. These leaders will do exploits for God unknown to their predecessors because they will push beyond the limits.”
Gareth and his wife, Rene—who has served alongside him as national leader and regional chair—are senior pastors at the Foursquare headquarters church in Kingston, Jamaica. Together they are launching a Christian leadership development program for emerging leaders ages 18-25 across the Caribbean, equipping the next generation with biblical leadership principles and practical competencies for ministry and marketplace influence.
Gareth holds a doctorate from the University of Minnesota, Twin Cities, along with master’s and bachelor’s degrees from Oral Roberts University. He and Rene have three children: Carrington (18), Kayanna (15) and Kristen (13).
