The Employee Retention Credit under the CARES Act assists employers in retaining as many employees as possible during the public health emergency. As such, the federal government is providing a refundable employment tax against the qualifying employer paid social security for employees. This is available to non-profits and small businesses for wages paid from March 12, 2020, to September 30, 2021.

Even if you have received a Paycheck Protection Program Loan, you may be eligible for the Employee Retention Credit for wages not used in computing the paycheck protection loan.
