On Monday, February 12, 2007, Dr. Leita Mae Steward passed away at her home in Los Angeles after an extended illness. She was 90 years old.

Leita Mae Steward had been an ordained minister since 1945. She served as Dr. Rolf K. McPherson’s executive secretary for the entirety of his 44-year tenure as president of The Foursquare Church. In addition to that very pivotal role, Dr. Steward held several significant ministry positions at Angelus Temple and in ecumenical circles. The Christian businesswomen’s class that she started in 1950 became legendary, and many people came to know Jesus through her radio ministry and various other outreaches. Most people, however, probably primarily associate Leita Mae Steward with the House on the Hill ministries–the ministry and social functions that were conducted there are too numerous to recount. To the very end of her life, Dr. Steward retained her passion for winning people to the Lord and making disciples of all with whom she was entrusted.

Leita Mae Steward is survived by a sister, Roberta Harris, of Ada, Okla.; a niece, Aleta Phelps, who lived with her and cared for her during her illness; and several other nieces and nephews.

Forest Lawn in Glendale will host the viewing on Thursday, March 1, from 5:00-8:00 p.m. The memorial service will be at Angelus Temple on Friday, March 2, at 1:00 p.m.; a reception at House on the Hill will immediately follow. Shuttle service will be provided between Angelus Temple and House on the Hill.

In lieu of flowers, the family is asking that contributions be made to House on the Hill Ministries and designated for one or more of the following: Kings College and Seminary Special Ministry Scholarship Fund; Philippine Mission Fund; Foursquare Missions Press; House on the Hill Ministries.
