When David Leonard was 17 years old, he joined the United States Air Force and chose to follow Jesus during basic training. Today, he serves as a Foursquare chaplain and U.S. Air Force captain, where his latest deployment overseas allowed him to bring Christ’s peace and share the gospel with Joint Special Forces teams.

“We, as chaplains, get to go where there’s chaos and bring the presence of Jesus,” David shares in this video, recorded live at Foursquare Connection 2015 in Anaheim, Calif. Chaplains are the ones, he says, who lead people to Jesus before they die, who ride in military convoys to break bread with troops, and who sit in the ashes with people who are broken.

“They’re your missionaries in America,” David reminds us. As we live in a nation that fosters freedom, may we remember to pray and care for those in our churches who are bringing hope and cultivating relationships in places where darkness has settled in order to bring the Lord’s light.
