The board of directors is entrusted with a wide range of responsibilities in regard to oversight of The Foursquare Church. Although the board cannot delegate its decision-making responsibility and authority to any one portion of its members or to any other group, the board can and does assign committees to assist in the process of making informed decisions. At this time, the board has empowered 13 committees; each of these will be explained individually. As need dictates, additional committees can be established; committees can also be disbanded when the board of directors no longer needs assistance in the specific areas that the committees served.

The board of directors appoints the chairperson of each committee and gives final approval of the membership of each committee. Although at least two members of the board of directors serve on each committee, some committees also include non-board members who are chosen because of their skill and expertise in specific areas. The president of The Foursquare Church is an ex officio member of all committees. All members are appointed to two-year terms, but there is no limit to the number of terms committee members can serve.

Each committee determines the number of times it will meet in order to carry out the responsibilities with which it has been entrusted. However, each committee must have at least one annual face-to-face meeting. The chairman of each committee is responsible for submitting progress reports and recommendations to the board of directors.
