Foursquare is investing in the next generation with a new cohort for camp director training, which will meet monthly from November 2025 to January 2026. The online gatherings will address the foundations of camp ministry, best safety practices and team-building essentials while also connecting NextGen camp directors across the nation.
Cohort participants will learn from experienced directors in the Foursquare movement, engage in interactive Zoom calls with breakout discussions, have access to downloadable resources and be equipped with ongoing support and networking.
Natalie Werking, Cornerstone Program lead for The Foursquare Church, notes that supporting camp directors enables them to pour into kids and teenagers all around the country.
“By equipping leaders to serve well, Foursquare can support the experience of thousands of kids and teens who attend camps to know and follow Jesus, be filled with the Spirit and walk in their calling.”

“We want Foursquare camps to be environments that are covered in prayer, planned well and executed safely so that the Holy Spirit can move freely,” says Natalie. “By equipping leaders to serve well, Foursquare can support the experience of thousands of kids and teens who attend camps to know and follow Jesus, be filled with the Spirit and walk in their calling.”
Emily Plater, director of Shared Mission, adds that during the monthly sessions there will also be dedicated time to pray together, since planning camps is much more than an administrative task.
“Camp directors lead on the front lines of what God is doing in our Foursquare movement,” Emily explains. “They steward a space that is both spiritual and strategic—creating room for God to move powerfully in this generation while planting seeds of faith that will bear fruit for generations to come. We recognize that while we steward the space, it is the Spirit of God who does the work. This is why we will prioritize prayer in our time together, pursuing His presence together.”
The cohort is designed for NextGen camp directors leading winter or summer camps for children and teens. It is highly recommended for new directors who want to plan ahead, strategize with others, ask questions and gain support. Experienced directors are encouraged to join for fresh ideas, renewed skills and connections with others doing similar work.
Cohort Schedule
Week 1: Foundations of camp ministry
November 3, 2025 – 6 p.m. (PST) / 9 p.m. (EST)
The first cohort gathering begins with introductions, connections and an exploration of the developmental needs of campers at different stages (kids, tweens and teens). Camp directors will learn how to design age-appropriate programming, and how to select and prepare speakers for different age groups.
Week 2: Safety + legal
December 8, 2025 – 6 p.m. (PST) / 9 p.m. (EST)
A safe camp environment is a camp director’s top priority. With guidance from guest speaker Josh Best, who serves as general counsel for The Foursquare Church, camp directors will unpack Foursquare’s guidelines for overnight or off-site ministry events, also found in the recently updated Foursquare Child + Youth Protection Manual. Directors will learn best practices for supervision, boundaries and reporting. The time will also include working through real-life scenarios as a group.
Week 3: Leadership + team building
January 12, 2026 – 6 p.m. (PST) / 9 p.m. (EST)
Strong teams are essential for camp planning and the camp itself. In this final gathering, directors will explore communication strategies regarding expectations, feedback and conflict resolution, as well as empowering others with delegation, spiritual leadership and trust building. Directors will discuss how to facilitate team-building to create unity and a shared purpose.
