The 2014 Cabinet meetings have just concluded in Glendale, Calif., and, in a word, they have been inspiring. While the gathering was predominately focused on discussing Reimagine, the days actually served as a culminating point for years of prayer, research, brainstorming and decision-making.

Though much must still be worked out and implemented in the months (and even years) ahead, I believe the assertive manner being used to address the challenges facing the Foursquare family is positioning us for a measure of fruitfulness unseen in decades. I am sincerely excited!

Although it would take pages to adequately brief you on the many details discussed in our meetings related to the Reimagine process, I want to share the five “stakes” this cabinet has driven in the ground, enabling us to “enlarge the place of our tent.” President Glenn Burris Jr. used this metaphor from Isaiah 54:2 to describe the outcomes of the Reimagine process. The “stakes” are:

  1. Align everything Foursquare to the Great Commission (our mission).
  2. Align the national church, districts and local churches to a catalytic culture.
  3. Align 100 percent of the tithe to the field (local churches and districts).
  4. Align Foursquare Foundation to resourcing and supporting the Foursquare mission.
  5. Align polity to provide property options for local churches.

Though these statements of alignment represent many points of change and refinement for Foursquare, all are designed to assist local churches in making more disciples as we seek to fulfill the Great Commission together.

The presentations made by the executive team and the Presidential Task Force members were compelling, and evidenced thoughtful research and collaboration. They are anything but knee-jerk reactions or superficial treatments of the obstacles Foursquare faces.

Frankly, I believe these alignments are a pathway to greater fiscal, organizational and spiritual health. Even with the pockets of uncertainty that exist in this process, I encourage us—one and all—with the words the Lord spoke to Joshua: “Be strong and courageous. Do not be frightened, and do not be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go” (Josh. 1:9, ESV).

Our God is for us, with us, and has planned “greater things” that include us! His preferred future includes each of you, your churches, your communities and your states. Don’t fear; we’re crossing this river together!
