“Watch and pray with Me!”

These words of Jesus recorded in Mark 14 call The Foursquare Church to intercession in 2010 with the same passion as when He first spoke them to His disciples.

Starting at midnight on Saturday, January 9, Foursquare leaders will pray continuously for one 24-hour period with specific focus on families, ministers, ministries and the world. Subsequent 24-hour prayer will occur on the second Saturday of each month. Imagine what will happen as thousands of Foursquare leaders join forces globally to watch and pray!

In a recent letter to Foursquare ministers, Glenn Burris Jr. wrote: “As our family unites in prayer, we believe miraculous stories will emerge. Kneel, stand, lie prostrate, cry, speak aloud, speak in the Spirit or be silent before Him—but watch and pray with us.” He also reminded leaders what the great evangelist John Wesley once said: “God does nothing apart from prayer.”

Leaders may sign up now at www.7Fourteen.org and commit to pray for at least one hour on January 9 so that the full 24-hour period is covered with prayer in every time zone and in every part of the world.

The concept of “watch and pray” from Mark’s gospel is familiar to church leaders. But while they agree with the principle, many leaders confess to praying less often than they should, citing lack of time as the major conflict.

The book of Acts describes 120 followers of Jesus who waited for 10 days, anticipating the infilling of the Holy Spirit on the Day of Pentecost. By today’s standards, 10 days is a long time for most people to watch and pray. Interim General Supervisor Tammy Dunahoo believes that Foursquare leaders sense the need to commit to unified prayer. “We anticipate significantly more than 120 leaders to sign up and pray each month in 2010,” she affirms.

The website’s name, www.7Fourteen.org, is based on 2 Chronicles 7:14 and serves as a reminder to humbly pray, repent and seek God’s face. His commitment in response is to hear His people, forgive them and heal the land.

The 7Fourteen website will feature monthly themes such as prayer for those in leadership, those in affliction, global issues, evangelism and more. Devotionals by Foursquare ministers and recommended prayer points will also be available.
